CMS NADAC (National Average Drug Acquisition Cost)

Weekly survey-based publication of average retail pharmacy acquisition cost per NDC. Foundation of every cost-per-unit number on RxFinder. Published by CMS Medicaid Drug Programs, collected by Myers and Stauffer LC.

What we pull: NDC-level NADAC per-unit cost, weekly effective date, pharmacy type breakdown, prior-period NADAC for trend calculations.

What we don't pull: 5i NADAC (separate parenteral list), FUL (Federal Upper Limit) prices.

FDA Orange Book (Approved Drug Products)

FDA's official reference for approved drug products with therapeutic equivalence ratings. Source for generic manufacturer counts, ANDA filings, patent and exclusivity expirations.

What we pull: ANDA approvals per drug (applicant, approval date, reference-listed status), patent expiry dates, exclusivity codes and expiry, generic manufacturer counts.

What we don't pull: Suitability petitions, withdrawn products, BLA (biologics) entries.

openFDA NDC Directory

Master directory of all NDCs (National Drug Codes) with product, packager, dosage form, and route information. Used as the canonical drug identity layer that joins every other dataset.

What we pull: NDC, generic name, brand names, dosage form, route, packager, marketing start/end dates, product type.

CMS Part D Formulary File

Plan-by-NDC formulary placement: which tier, whether prior-auth, step-therapy, or quantity limits apply. Currently covers 329 Part D plans for the 2026 plan year.

What we pull: Per-NDC tier placement counts (Tier 1–5 + not-listed), prior-authorization count, step-therapy count, quantity-limit count, total plans surveyed.

CMS Part D Spending Dashboard

Annual published statistics on total Part D spend, claims, beneficiaries, and average cost per claim per drug. The denominator for every "annualized opportunity" calculation on RxFinder.

What we pull: Total Part D spending per drug, total claims, total beneficiaries, total supply days, average cost per claim, average cost per beneficiary, prescriber count.

FDA Drug Shortage Database

Live list of drugs in shortage as reported by manufacturers under 21 USC 356c. Includes reason codes, expected recovery dates, and per-manufacturer status.

What we pull: Shortage ID, status (active/discontinued/resolved), reason, manufacturer, date reported, date resolved, FDA detail URL.

openFDA Enforcement (Drug recalls)

FDA's database of drug recalls and enforcement actions, classified by severity (Class I/II/III). Used to cross-reference shortage status against active recalls.

What we pull: Recall classification, reason for recall, status, manufacturer, distribution geography, NDC.

HRSA OPAIS (340B Office of Pharmacy Affairs Information System)

Public registry of 340B covered entities and their contracted pharmacies. Source for every per-drug 340B exposure estimate on RxFinder.

What we pull: Covered entity count per drug, contract pharmacy count, top entity-type breakdown, geographic concentration.

What we don't pull: Per-drug volume of 340B product dispensed — OPAIS shows the network but not the volume.
